Montgomery Community College Gunsmithing School
With its rich history, Montgomery Community College in North Carolina is continuously offering all students the chance to pursue the careers that they plan to take, especially when it comes to gunsmithing.
Formerly Montgomery Technical Institute, the school became Montgomery Technical College in the year 1983 in agreement to the board and legislative approval but come September 1987, the Montgomery County Commissioners as well as Board of Trustees voted for officially changing the name into Montgomery Community College, backed up by the authorization from North Carolina General Assembly. On the 19th of December 1993, the accreditation of MCC was reaffirmed by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, making it eligible to offer diplomas, certificates and associate degrees. As of the moment, the campus of Montgomery Community College has facilities that are around 134,000 square feet, on a land that measures 153 acres.
MCC’s Gunsmithing Program
The curriculum on Gunsmithing offered by Montgomery Community College is created in order to give all students the needed skills that are necessary in refurbishing wood and metal as appropriate for firearms, diagnosing the malfunctions that need repair as well as finishing more complex tasks in custom gunsmithing.
The course work in gunsmithing is composed of creating tools being utilized in the trade of gunsmithing: firearms restoration, stock making, repair work, barrel work as well as custom work. When you are done with the program, you are expected to:

- Operate rebarrel firearms and machine tools
- Manufacture parts and tools for firearms
- Accurize rifles and handguns
In general, 76 total hours is needed for AAS degree in Gunsmithing, 42 hours to get a Gunsmithing diploma and 12 to 18 hours for you to acquire your Gunsmithing certificate.
NRA Short-Term Gunsmithing Program
If you want to learn about Gunsmithing for a short term only, there is an NRA program offered in MCC right now which will let you learn all the basics that you should know about gunsmithing during the spring and summer. For just a few weeks, all the fundamentals of the field will be taught to you to ensure that you will be able to get the information that you need. This is useful whether you decide to make gunsmithing your profession, or even just as a hobby that you would like to nourish.
